A Real Game Changer: OUYA's First Open Source Gaming Console

Digital Sensus - Technology Up-to-date: A Real Game Changer: OUYA?s First Open Source Gaming Console

open source gaming consoleHistorically, the games console market has been a simple one to understand. While leading products such as the X-Box and Playstation have been sold in their millions across the globe, so too independent developers have created unique games and sold these as being compatible with one or multiple gaming platforms.
There is a change on the horizon, however, and one which is set to revolutionize the gaming industry beyond all recognition. This is the development of the first open source gaming platform, which is essentially being designed as an in-built television console that will afford users access to a number of independently created games and titles.A Logical but Game Changing Step: The Evolution of the Gaming MarketThe concept is the brain-child of gaming start up organization OUYA, who managed to raise more than US$ 8 million through the online investment resource Kickstarter. More than 63,000 individual investors backed the concept with a financial commitment, which has not only raised significant capital but also proved the level of interest that exists in the idea of open source gaming. This also suggests that gamers and developers have been waiting for this development for some time, which distinguishes it as a logical and market altering innovation. This open source console is being built on the Android Platform, and is set to retail for just US$99 (?57). This is less than half the cost of the market leading X-Box console, and OUYA hope that the diverse range of games available will offer a broad choice to users and consumers. When you consider that individual games for traditional consoles can cost more than US$50 each, the potential savings of purchasing an OUYA console will serve to both reward existing gamers and encourage new custom from around the world. The Bottom Line: Where the Money LiesFor those of you who are wondering where the money lies, then you need look no further than the business model that supports mobile applications. Like these, the games promoted through OUYA?s own online store will be available for free, so that developers will accrue their revenue through paid up-grades and in game purchases that are made by users as they play. So consumers who are put off by the extortionate fees that retailers charge for existing games can rest assured that they will be able to save money both in the short and longer term with an OUYA console. The only immediate concern surrounds the risk of piracy, which is prominent because of the ease with which software can be uploaded, shared and swapped. Combining the ease of use with security is one that the designers at OUYA are focusing heavily on, as without a satisfactory compromise gamers may well be discouraged by the risk of privacy and online fraud. This risk is something that leading online providers such as Facebook and Apple have managed to negate successfully, however, so there appears to be no reason why OUYA?s game changing innovation can have the desired effect within the market place.Written by Lewis Humphries, technology blogger, UKHost4u.com

The Personal Side of Networking

Submitted by Glenn Warner

Shelley, my wife, is one of a 65-member BNI chapter, and I am in a 23-member chapter.

While she has been in BNI for four years, I have only been a member for seven months. Over the years, Shelley has experienced Givers Gain. I personally experienced it for the first time recently--and I will never forget it.

I just found out my mom has terminal breast cancer. She has a mental illness as well, which can make some days harder than others. To help my dad during this tough time, we worked to find his legal papers, my mother's living will, and others important documents. Having had these documents finalized over 20 years ago, they were apparently lost. We scoured the house for two days and only found one piece of paper with a law office name on top.

When I returned home with this sheet of paper, I told Shelley about the hard time we had finding my mom's will and living will. Shelley looked at the name on the paper and said, "That law firm is represented in my BNI group, and I just had a 1-to-1 a few days ago with the main partner."

I was thunderstruck. Shelley emailed the lawyer on the spot--2 am--explaining my predicament and requesting he call me in the morning.

As you know, most law firms open at 9 am. But at 7:56 am, my phone rang. It was the law firm. Again, I explained how my dad had lost the legal papers. After a pause, the lawyer told me he would call me back in five minutes.

When the law firm called back, the lawyer told me he had on record all the paper work and asked, "Glenn, how can I help you with this now?"

When I asked about how the living will worked for the conditions at hand, Tim gave me all the details my family needed to help us do the right thing for my mom--per her request.

The true power of BNI is what happens with members outside of the weekly chapter meeting. Without networking, it would have been very hard to help my family during an emotionally charged and difficult time. My mom only has a few weeks to live, but because of BNI, she will live out her last days under the terms she requested.

Small Business Marketing - Mission Partners Small Business ...

One of the nicest advantages of internet marketing is the availability of so many free site marketing opportunities. We all know about Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, blogging, and so many more. There is a lesser-known way to create free traffic, it is something simple and you probably aren?t taking full advantage of it: newsletter articles.

There are so many free methods of site traffic and you are probably putting in quite a bit of time and effort to keep them up and consistent before you actually see the benefits and rewards. Writing newsletter articles is a great way to get a jump start. If you have done any article marketing you already know how to write the articles, the only difference is where you are submitting your articles. The most difficult part of the process is finding someone who will publish your articles, and that really isn?t that hard. It is a little time consuming, but it is worth it as the results are practically immediate.

This is how the process works: Newsletter editors always need quality content, particularly so if the newsletter is published frequently. Success comes easily when you have well written piece that offers information that is valuable.? Getting traffic to your website only takes some information in the resource box at the end of the article: give a brief description of who you are, what you offer and give the link to your site.

Once you have decided the topic of your article (it should be something pertaining to your business and website), you need to look for newsletters that fit your branch of business. In order to get the biggest return on your investment, try to find 10-20 niche newsletters that publish free articles. Find out how many subscribers it reaches and start with the newsletter that has the highest number continue down the list. Don?t forget to wait a few days between submissions to avoid having the same article published by different newsletters on the same day. This could be embarrassing to the newsletter and to you; it could also be costly as the newsletter may deny future submissions from you. Once you finish sending to your list, send your article to a list that keeps articles that newsletters can pull from to send to their subscribers.

Writing good content is very important. Your article should be free of spelling and grammatical errors, offering valuable and true information that answers potential questions of your target audience.

Australia reaches out to nonaligned states at Iran summit

Australian envoys attending a nonaligned summit in Tehran on Thursday are to reach out to several participating countries, but will walk out of the event if Iranian leaders air their anti-Israeli rhetoric, an Australian foreign ministry spokesman said.

Australia's UN ambassador, Gary Quinlan, and a prime ministerial special envoy, Joanna Hewitt, will be attending the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit on Thursday and Friday as invited guests, the spokesman told AFP by telephone on Wednesday.

"If there is any anti-Israel rhetoric by Iranian officials, we will not attend, we will walk out," he said.

Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who is to open the summit on Thursday, and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad have both called Israel a "cancerous tumour" that should vanish from the Middle East. Ahmadinejad in the past has also denied the Holocaust that occurred during World War II.

Iranian language in the summit itself was expected to be more muted, however, so as not to upset the 120 NAM member states taking part, which represent much of the developing world, or UN chief Ban Ki-moon, who will also be there as an observer.

Iran has portrayed the summit as a diplomatic coup against the United States and Israel, which have tried to isolate it internationally over its disputed nuclear programme.

Australia has joined Western pressure on Iran, and last week boosted its own sanctions against the Islamic republic by targeting Iran's energy and financial sectors.

Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr last week defended the envoys' attendance at the summit by telling Australia's Sky News television that "our foreign policy is not all about the US alliance, it's about more than that."

The Australian envoys in Tehran aim to communicate with several summit delegations, particularly those which do not host an Australian embassy, the foreign ministry spokesman said.

Their presence was also seen as helping Australia's bid to win a temporary UN Security Council seat to be decided by a UN vote in October, though the spokesman said that was not the main reason.

Australia was "working towards" winning that seat but was aware it had not lobbied for it as long as the two other contenders, European nations Finland and Luxembourg, the spokesman said.

I hope Tony's death will not end the fight | This is Bath

The widow of ?right-to-die? campaigner Tony Nicklinson has said she hopes the battle to change the law on assisted dying will continue even without the brave Melksham man being around to fight it.

Jane Nicklinson said she hoped ?someone will come forward? to continue the challenge to British law to allow those with ?locked-in syndrome?, which left her husband reliant on others for everything, to be legally killed to end their suffering.

  1. Jane Nicklinson

  2. Tony and Jane Nicklinson at home in Melksham

Mr Nicklinson died last week just a week or so after hearing his legal challenge to a High Court ruling that doctors ending his life with a lethal injection on his command could not be guaranteed immunity from prosectution.

The 58-year-old took the defeat badly and, speaking for the first time since her husband died, his widow Jane said the fight had gone out of him and he gave up.

Within days of the images of a distraught Tony openly weeping on live television as the verdict was given, he developed pneumonia, refused food or liquid and passed away at home, surrounded by his family.

Mrs Nicklinson said: ?I hope that at some point, someone will come forward and carry on with what Tony started.

?I think we always knew the chances of winning at this stage were slim ? possible but slim ? and we?d never been told anything different so we were prepared for it,? she added.

Mr Nicklinson?s case was heard at the same time as another sufferer of locked-in syndrome, known only as ?Martin? and from East Anglia, and lawyers acting on behalf of both are currently considering an appeal against the judgement which affected both of them.

?I think the moment was the day he broke down in front of all the cameras. I think it really hit him then that everyone else out there was going to know as well. It just completely knocked him for six,? she said. ?I think he had raised his hopes so much ? probably out of proportion. He said he hadn?t been prepared for the emotional side of it for him and he was absolutely devastated.

?It was the day after that he said to me that the fight had just gone,? said Mrs Nicklinson. ?He said he couldn?t take it any more. Within a couple of days he developed pneumonia ? the last 48 hours were pretty unpleasant but thankfully it was quick. It?s just a shame that he couldn?t die the way he wanted to die,? she added.

Mr Nicklinson refused treatment for the pneumonia and died at home. His wife said that if he had won the case, he might well have taken up the option of a lethal injection sooner rather than later, even though he originally said he did not want to die immediately, just wanted to know that he could end his life when he chose to.

I started a competition with Billabong two years ago. There had never been a surf contest for girls only. So Julie Gonzalez, the rep for billabong in Puerto Rico, and I put together a contest for girls of all ages and ability. It?s awesome because more than 70 surfer girls show up!

What?s it like being female in a male-dominated sport?

It has its ups and downs. It?s awesome cause since I?m a girl I can drop in on guys no problem! haha But sometimes when we?re competing we get the worst conditions and the worst tides. You get used to it though. haha

How would you encourage other women who want to get into surfing?

I would tell them that it?s the best thing ever!! and that it?s not just a sport, it?s a lifestyle. The feeling you get when you?re surfing is unlike any other.

In bipartisan move, U.S. archbishop to pray for Democrats, too

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Roman Catholic Cardinal Timothy Dolan will deliver the closing prayer at the Democratic National Convention as well as this week's Republican meeting, in a sign of bipartisanship after Dolan had taken a role opposing the White House on policy matters.

Dolan, the archbishop of New York and president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, last week accepted an invitation to deliver the closing prayer at the Republican National Convention on Thursday in Tampa, Florida.

His office announced on Tuesday he would do the same for the Democrats in Charlotte, North Carolina, on September 6.

Political analysts see many Catholics as "swing voters" who can be swayed to vote for either party, making Dolan welcome at both conventions.

"It was made clear to the Democratic convention organizers, as it was to the Republicans, that the cardinal was coming solely as a pastor, only to pray, not to endorse any party, platform or candidate," Joseph Zwilling, spokesman for the New York archdiocese, said in a statement.

Dolan has become an increasingly influential political figure in the United States and a champion for conservatives, especially since he challenged President Barack Obama in February over a federal health insurance provision that required Catholic institutions such as universities and hospitals to cover birth control.

On Monday Dolan said he wanted Obama and Mitt Romney, who will get the Republican presidential nomination at the party's convention, to sign a "civility pledge" to ensure they would not make personal attacks during the campaign and instead concentrate on substantive issues.

In February U.S. bishops, led by Dolan, had pressed Obama to exempt religious employers from a federal mandate that all health insurance plans offer free birth control.

Obama agreed to modify the mandate so religious employers would not have to pay for contraceptive coverage directly. That satisfied some Catholic groups but the bishops wanted the mandate repealed entirely.

Energized by the battle, Catholic bishops announced their intention to rally Americans against a long list of government measures they said intruded on religious liberty.

After a conference meeting a year ago, Dolan declared religious freedom "is now increasingly and in unprecedented ways under assault in America."

The Rebirth of Recess

Every schoolchild who?s ever squirmed in his seat, anxious for recess to arrive, can sympathize with students in Chicago. This year, many public schools in that city are scheduled to have recess for the first time in three decades. Chicago?s long recess drought isn?t unusual. Even before No Child Left Behind, recess was an endangered species. Since NCLB, every minute of the school day has been scrutinized for its instructional value?and recess, a break from instruction, often didn?t survive the scrutiny. It was, by definition, a waste of time.

But while administrators were trying to get rid of recess, academics were studying it?that is, they were studying the time when children weren?t studying. The new science of recess says that recess isn?t a waste of time at all. ?Having recess is much, much, much better than not having recess,? says Anthony Pellegrini, a professor of educational psychology at the University of Minnesota who?s written extensively on the subject. ?That?s unequivocal, I feel. That?s a no-brainer.? That?s good news for children in Chicago squirming in their seats. But what does recess look like when no schoolchild has ever had it before?

It?s an ironic turn of events: For years, schools have been getting rid of recess to spend more time on math and reading. It is notoriously hard to get reliable numbers on recess?recess policies vary from year to year, school to school, even classroom to classroom?but numerous surveys have found recess time declining. That?s especially true in poorer school districts, where test scores are frequently low and principals panicked. The numbers show a clear trend: The more minority students a school has, and the lower the income level of their parents, the less time allotted for recess?nearly half of poor children go all day without it. They don?t even have anywhere to have it: In Chicago, nearly 100 elementary and middle schools have no playgrounds at all. (The American Association of Pediatrics recently issued an impassioned statement on the ?play deprivation? experienced by children in poverty.)

The arguments against recess are simple and no-nonsense, especially for these schools: What?you want the kids to play kickball when they?re failing math? When the Atlanta public schools got rid of recess, its superintendent famously said, ?We are intent on improving academic performance. You don't do that by having kids hanging on the monkey bars."

These arguments work, Pellegrini says, ?because attacking recess has got this sort of intuitive feel: If you give kids more time doing something, they?ll do better in school. When in fact the opposite is probably the case.? Repeated studies have shown that when recess is delayed, children pay less and less attention. They are more focused on days when they have recess. A major study in Pediatrics found that children with more than 15 minutes of recess a day were far better behaved in class than children who had shorter recess breaks or none at all.

They?ll get more out of class, too: Children seem to learn more efficiently when information is spaced out?when it is distributed over time. It?s been widely documented that the brain needs a break. High-performing East Asian schools have famously long school days?but much of the extra time is taken up by recess, not instruction. Which might be why recess is now back, even in places like Atlanta (although it is squeezed for time).

Despite the cognitive and social benefits of recess, principals still hate it: In the scholarship on recess, they inevitably describe their recess periods as total chaos. In Chicago, recess has been out of the schools so long that principals are nervous about having it back.

Dell B1265dnf Multifunction Mono Laser Printer

Clearly designed for a micro, small, or home office, and priced accordingly, the Dell B1265dnf Multifunction Mono Laser Printer delivers all the important features a small office needs. It can print and fax from, as well as scan to, your PC, including over a network, and work as a standalone copier and fax machine. It also offers suitable output quality, speed, and paper capacity, all of which makes it a potentially good fit as a workhorse mono laser MFP.

The B1265dnf is a near twin of the Samsung SCX-4729FD that I reviewed earlier this year. Except for their colors?white for the Samsung SCX-4729FD and black for the B1265dnf?they look identical. They also offer essentially the same list of features, which isn't too surprising if you're aware that Samsung builds many of Dell's printers. The simple truth is that aside from who provides support, there aren't many differences between the two. And if you're considering the B1265dnf, you should check out the Samsung SCX-4729FD as well.

Basics
As with its Samsung doppelganger, the B1265dnf is a bit too imposing to comfortably share a desk with. However, at 15.1 by 16.0 by 13.3 inches (HWD), it has a smaller footprint than many inkjets, so it shouldn't be hard to find room for even in the smallest of small offices. You might even consider it as a personal MFP.

Paper handling is suitable for most micro and small offices, with a 250-sheet tray, a single-sheet manual feed, and a built-in duplexer (for printing on both sides of a page). Note that at this writing Dell's Web page and some of its marketing material shows the manual feed tray as having a 10-sheet capacity. However, this is a typo, and Dell is in the process of correcting it.

One key office-centric feature is the 40-page automatic document feeder (ADF). As is common for office MFPs, the ADF supplements a letter-size flatbed to let you scan both stacks of paper and legal-size pages.

Setup, Speed, and Output Quality
For my tests, I connected the B1265dnf to a wired network and installed the drivers on a system running Windows Vista. Setup was standard.

Dell B1265dnf Multifunction Mono Laser Printer

Dell rates the printer engine at 29 pages per minute (ppm), which is the speed you can expect to see when printing a text file with no graphics or photos. On our business applications suite (timed using QualityLogic's hardware and software) it came in at an effective 8.5 ppm, essentially tied with the Samsung SCX-4729FD, at 8.2 ppm. As another point of reference, both printers were significantly slower on our tests than the Editors' Choice Canon imageClass MF4570dn , at 12.3 ppm.

Output quality counts as a strong point overall, primarily because of the text and graphics quality. Text is at the high end of the range where most mono lasers fall, making it easily good enough for almost any business purpose, but a little short of what most people would want for desktop publishing applications. Graphics quality, similarly, is good enough for almost any business purpose, including PowerPoint handouts and the like.

Photo quality is at the low end of the tight range that includes most mono laser MFPs. It's certainly good enough to print recognizable photos from Web pages, but not good enough by most people's standards for photos in client newsletters or the like.

Running Cost
One other issue worth mention is running cost. The claimed cost per page for the B1265dnf is 3.3 cents. That's 0.3 cents per page more than the Samsung SCX-4729FD claims, or $3 more per 1,000 pages. But it's also 0.6 cents less per page than the MF4570dn, or $6 less per 1,000 pages. Neither works out to a big difference unless you print a lot of pages. But the more you expect to print, the more of an issue this may be.

Keep in mind too that it's not the running cost that matters, but the total cost of ownership. If you expect to print 10,000 pages over the lifetime of the printer, the running cost for the B1265dnf will be $30 more than for the SCX-4729FD. But if you can buy the B1265dnf for $30 less than the Samsung SCX-4729FD, the total cost will be the same.

When I reviewed the Samsung SCX-4729FD, I pointed out that it covered all the bases for most small office needs. The same is true for the Dell B1265dnf Multifunction Mono Laser Printer. In addition to printing, scanning, copying, and faxing, it delivers a potentially attractive balance of speed, output quality, paper handling, price, and features. That said, if you put a priority on speed, you should take a look at the Canon MF4570dn. You may also want to work out a total cost of ownership comparison with the Samsung SCX-4729FD. If the numbers work out right, the Dell B1265dnf can easily be the right choice.

Florida airports reopen; Airlines eye New Orleans

NEW YORK (AP) ? South Florida airports were returning to normal operations Monday morning but airlines are already warning of cancellations in and around New Orleans as Tropical Storm Isaac nears.

Airlines cancelled more than 230 flights on Monday, according to flight-tracking service FlightAware. The vast majority of cancellations stemmed from the storm, which is expected to grow to a Category 1 hurricane and hit land late Tuesday night.

American Airlines, part of AMR Corp., runs a major hub at Miami International Airport and was affected the most. The airline had 148 cancellations in Florida Monday morning but expected to operate normally by late morning, according to spokesman Ed Martelle.

Airlines typically move planes out of a storm's path to protect them and ensure a faster return to service.

Airlines cancelled 857 flights on Sunday ? including 489 from American, according to FlightAware.

Other Florida airports, including Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Key West, and Marathon were responsible for the majority of other cancellations.

Key West International Airport, which originally expected to remain closed until Tuesday, will now reopen at noon Monday, according to airport director Peter Horton.

Airlines are now closely watching the storm and warning of possible cancellations along the Florida panhandle and in New Orleans.

Southwest Airlines, which cancelled 35 Florida flights today between its Southwest and AirTran brands, is monitoring airports in Panama City, Pensacola and New Orleans. The airline will make a decision about New Orleans flights late on Monday, according to spokeswoman Ashley Dillon.

Those airports are tiny compared to Miami, which is a major gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean. Any cancellations there would be in addition to the nearly 1,000 flights scrapped so far because of the storm.

All airlines will waive change fees for passengers wishing to move their flight into or out of an affected city to another date. They are also offering refunds to passengers whose flights have been cancelled. The specific policies can be found on each airline's website.

Oldest Diver In Limerick Still Enjoys Scuba Diving Adventures ...

A scuba diver has become the oldest diver in Limerick and possibly Ireland, and despite celebrating his 80th birthday recently, he has no immediate plans to give up the underwater sport.

Ronnie Hurley, one of the founder members of Limerick Sub Aqua Club, has been going on scuba diving holidays to destinations all over the world for the past 52 years.

?Ronnie is a real Limerick hero. He is a fantastic, inspiring figure. He is without a doubt admired throughout the whole club and further afield,? commented Mike Orth, the chairman of the Limerick Sub Aqua Club, which was established in 1960.

Ronnie explained his passion for scuba diving adventures and said: ?When I started diving in my 20?s I wanted to boast that I?d dive into my 80s. Now, I only dive in good conditions, when the water is warm and there?s plenty of fish life. Back then I?d dive every weekend, and would curse the weather if it wasn?t right. Now I think the odd time ?Wouldn?t it be lovely to be diving today?.?

Because of his age, Ronnie cannot dive as deep or for long periods of time, but this hasn?t stopped the pensioner from enjoying the underwater sport.

?I need help putting on my gear and my fins. I?m a bit stiff. I?m not an invalid but I have to be helped. Age is relative. I don?t look at myself as an 80-year-old diver, but I?m lucky people put up with me,? he commented.

Ronnie took the first of his many scuba diving holidays in 1960 in the Spanish Point and over the past five decades he has enjoyed trips to scuba diving destinations such as the Caribbean, Florida, Spain and Great Britain.

Scuba diving in the Red Sea is his all-time favourite but his most memorable dive was in Florida when he and four others dived off the USS Spiegel Grove, a 155-metre-long vessel that was sunk deliberately in Key Largo.

?It was an amazing dive, just awesome,? Ronnie said.

The 80-year-old diver keeps fit by cycling around town and going to the gym three times a week and it helps that he never drank alcohol excessively or smoked.

?I?m blessed with a reasonable body, that?s why I try to do this. People say ?Aren?t you great to do this??, but I?m not. It?s just what I enjoy,? he added.

After celebrating his 80th birthday recently, Ronnie Hurley has become the oldest scuba diver in Limerick and possibly Ireland. As one of the founders of the Limerick Sub Aqua Club, he has been enjoying scuba diving holidays in destinations all over the world (including exotic locations like the Caribbean) for 52 years and he has no intention of stopping the adventures just yet.

How far apart is long distance?

I was just wondering, what are everyone's opinions on how far apart a couple need to live before their relationship is classed as "long distance"?

My boyfriend lives 50 miles away from my large city in a small village by the coast, which is two train journeys and about an hour and a half in total. He says we're in a long distance relationship but I disagree, I think it has to be about 80 miles? For example, I'd say Manchester to Birmingham is long distance, but Manchester to Liverpool isn't.

I asked a friend and she said as a general rule it's anywhere over an hour away, or anywhere you can't get one bus to. (I disagree with the second part - for me it's two bus journeys to her house and she only lives ~10 miles away!)

    Thoughts?

If the relationship works, should it matter? I apologise in advance for being a tad blunt, but this is somewhat inconsequential if you and your boyfriend are in a relationship that works.

I would class long distance as any distance that means you have to plan to see each other in advance. By that I mean you can't just ring them up and say 'do you want to come over'. So for some people it could be half an hour.

Internet Marketing Ideas To Grow Your Website Now

If you?re interested in internet marketing then you may be a bit confused as to where to start, but you have to keep in mind that you can start whenever you want. The thing is, you want to make sure you?re taking the right steps and to do that, you?re going to want to learn as much as you can about internet marketing. This article is a good place to start.

To promote yourself or your business online, you need a presence on social media sites. Make a Facebook page or create a Twitter account. It is best if you can do both in conjunction with each other. These venues will allow you to communicate with your target audience on a daily basis to offer incentives and to get feedback.

Find ways to improve your marketing strategies by using software that analyzes the statistics of your website. Choose an analytics program that tracks details such as how customers navigate your website, how many new and return customers are visiting your pages, and which product categories are most often viewed. Programs such as Yahoo! Web Analytics can even provide you with real-time data so you can quickly gauge the effectiveness of sales, promotions and new products.

Be as detailed as possible when marketing a product. Studies show that large percentages of the population need profuse explanations about the benefits of the products they are thinking of buying in order to be persuaded. If customers genuinely believe the marketing, they will be much more willing to buy the product. Researchers have found that many people will trust a website with several paragraphs of information about a product over a website that is very succinct.

When discussing a product or service, be sure to state its advantages and disadvantages. Readers are more likely to trust an objective review that touches on the highlights and low points rather than a biased review that only praises a product or service. Also, do not understate a product or services abilities, but do not oversell them and promise things that can?t be delivered.

A great incentive to increase your internet marketing and internet exposure is to give away an electronic freebie with your advertisement in it or on it. You should allow anyone to who gets it to give it away and share it freely. This will attract others to your website and increase your exposure.

When you are becoming interested in internet marketing you have to move away from the idea that it is a get rich quick type of deal. While there are always stories of the people who were successful in this way, for the most part it is a lot of hard work to make a small to medium return.

Offer deep discounts to users that make large purchases or purchase multiple items. If users know that they can get one item for $5 after paying for three at the regular price they may actually end up spending a little more money on your site than they originally planned to.

If you want to improve your internet marketing strategy, recognize that your website has areas that need improvement. No matter how well the page has been put together, there will always be things that can be changed. By constantly updating and improving, you are making your business look more attractive to others.

If you are the owner of the company, create a 30 second video on your site describing the mission statement or services offered. If a customer is able to associate a face with a name, this can increase the personal connection with your brand. Creating a personal video can help increase profits and your overall bottom line.

The Internet is the newest tool in advancing business online. Using different Internet marketing strategies can turn themselves into a wealthy business in a very short amount of time. Having read this article you now should know a couple of tips yourself for Internet marketing. So what are you waiting for, get marketing!

How To Improve Your Home Based Business | Christopher ...

There are a lot of people learning that they can become financially successful by creating a home business. While they may have the idea, they do not know how to begin. To be successful, you need to learn everything that you can about home business. This article served as a strong start.

Consulting with an attorney who specializes in business law is an important step when you?re starting a home business. The laws that govern home businesses can vary from state to state. The business lawyer will inform you about these laws. He can also walk you step by step through your set up to make sure you adhere to the laws.

TIP! Dress professionally for your home business. If you work at home, you may wish to work while in your jammies.

Compare your new home business to similar businesses in the area to determine what kind of price points you need to set up to stay competitive. Set your rates using the information you have gleaned from your competitors. If you don?t charge what you?re worth, you won?t make enough to meet your needs.

Whenever it is appropriate, you can drive profits by charging membership fees. For some websites, subscription fees or memberships can be a great way to increase the bottom line.

Think about what the objective is for your business. This is a short, punchy description of your company and its services. Rely on this fixed objective when someone inquires about your home business. It will allow you to speak confidently and concisely about your products, impressing potential customers.

TIP! Describe your business objective in a few complete sentences. Think about why you created this business and what you wish to achieve.

A great tip for your home business is to keep tabs on the prices that your competition sets. This will guarantee that you are remaining competitive with others in your market, and will make your sales figures more understandable.

You need drive and initiative to succeed with a home business. You may want to build your own home office that your customers can enter, since many counties have office regulations. This also acts as an effective barrier between your private life and work life.

Working from home can become boring, so try to arrange meetings with clients. Try going out to various places during the week to maintain personal friendships.

TIP! If you often entertain clients with dining out or other activities, remember that you can deduct expenses like these from your taxable income. These meetings are legitimate expenses for your business.

You should include an option on your site to enter an email address to add to your mailing list. A place for contact information on every single page of your website is a must for customer retention.

Contact owners of other home businesses and offer ad space on your website, in return for placing your ads on their sites. You can use this tactic to increase the number of visitors to your site and, in turn, possibly increase your search results rankings. It?s important that your business has proper advertising so potential customers have an idea of what they?re clicking on.

If you are just beginning to establish relationships in your business, you may consider excusing some laxity in your customers? payment habits. However, this can significantly reduce your profits. Make sure that you have very clear and understandable payment terms set up, and they are written on every invoice and document that you give to your client. You should also include a late payment penalty (eight percent is standard) and make sure your clients know this upfront.

TIP! Start out by advertising your home based business online. Make sure you design a website that is easy to navigate.

Create a schedule of work hours. To avoid doing too much work and getting burned out, distinguish times when you?re specifically going to work. It may be a must to work for a long time sometimes, but do not over do it. Designated family time should be a work-free zone to aid in cutting down the stress levels.

Now that you have a greater idea of what you need to do to create and manage a home business, you should start feeling like you can accomplish your home business goals. Remember that the information you learned is only going to work if you apply it. If you follow the tips in this article, then your home business should succeed.

Personal Development Tips That Can Help Change Your Life ...

Make a list of your priorities, and plan your life around these elements. If you focus all of your thoughts on the things that really matter and quit dwelling on the negative things that do not matter at all, you are sure to find a greater inner peace.

Those who want to succeed often look to mentors for help. Most people who are winners have a great mentor and coach behind them. Teaching others is a critical part of life. If this isn?t available, then people are not going to be able to do their best. The better the coach, the more likely their student is to win.

Stress is the foe of happiness. Stress can take both a physical and an emotional toll on your body. You have to tackle the stress that?s bothering you before you can meet your goals. Set a time each day to relax, to clear your mind, and be alone. This peaceful mental relaxation will refresh your mind, and improve your inner self.

By being a leader, you can help improve your personal development. Leadership can be defined in many ways, but most people like to define it as ?influence.? Understand the events in your life that make up your leadership journey. Think about the circumstances that have had the most influence in your life. What changes did those events bring forth in you? How did your leadership skills come into play during those events? Thinking deeply about these issues can bring awareness of the level of your leadership and team member skills.

Do not expect to accomplish your goals and transform your life without deciding to do so and taking action. You have to choose and accept the change in order to grow.

Organization should be central in your life. Bringing structure to your life will give you a great sense of accomplishment, and living a more organized life will boost your confidence. An additional benefit is that the stress you felt from disorganization will be eliminated. Having everything in its rightful place will give you a sense of calm and ease.

If you want to improve, write your goals down. One specific goal you might set is to become more confident. Sit down and try to think of ways to give yourself more self-confidence. Finally, you will need to put yourself in a situation where you can practice being confident. By taking a methodical problem solving approach, you will increase the likelihood of meeting your goals.

You need to care for yourself before you can care for others. No matter what point you are in on your journey, you should always take time to breathe.

You can boost your personal development by being selfless. You can cultivate a strong, positive character, by learning how to make sacrifices for the sake of helping others. When making sacrifices that help others without hurting your well-being, you can become that kind person that you wanted to be.

When you are trying to improve yourself, you should aim to have a high amount of self-discipline. Learn not to give in every time your body craves something that may not be good for it. Overcome your body?s desire to overindulge in pleasure. Eating is uncomfortable and unhealthy when it becomes overeating; lustful or drunken behavior will harm your body as well. With proper self control you can stop vices from negatively impacting your body and mind.

Don?t let yourself get stressed out. You only create more stress than before when you over-react to negative events, and that is pointless. Accept that you cannot be perfect at everything and look for alternative ways to achieve your goals if you fail, instead of focusing on your mistakes.

In order to grow as a person, you need to give your life direction. Creating long-term goals is a necessity, because it can change your perspective and increase motivation.

Don?t use shopping as a comfort technique. If you do a hobby versus raising your credit card bill, you won?t have to stress over those bills and will have less clutter at home to clean.

Incorporate your belief system into daily living. Your individual core beliefs are what support your sense of self. Following these beliefs will help your sense of self-esteem. It gives your life meaning and a solid structure to build around. This practice also promotes consistency, which is a great trait to have.

There are many cases where people are aware of something that needs improvement in their lives, but are not sure how to go about doing this. The insights here will prove invaluable in that quest, if you keep in mind that the resolve and the expended energy will be your own. Kimber's Navy Family: Sleeping through the night

Yesterday I had a conversation with a woman who has one child, a singleton?16-month old little boy. She kept telling me she doesn't know "how I do it" with two 16-month olds, all that waking up in the night. Truth is, our toddlers sleep through the night. We put them to bed at 8 pm and they wake up at 8 am.

Sleeping through the night is a hot topic with young children. The first year, sleeping through the night is a relative term. A newborn needs to eat more frequently than a 10-month old. After the one-year mark, I want to sleep through the night, fully. I don't want a relative term. Sometimes I find that other moms use "sleeping through night" when they don't mean it. I have heard moms say their children sleep through the night when 1. they co-sleep 2. they "only" go in the nursery once or twice or 3. they have no set bedtimes. My first "slept through the night." We usually put him to bed around 8 pm. After a year old, he usually went to sleep in his own bed and he would crawl into our bed at some point in the night (he co-slept the entire first year). We usually heard him at some point in the night, even if we didn't go in to him; oftentimes, we were in the nursery once or twice in the night. Did he sleep through the night? I thought so. Then I had twins.

My twins sleep through the night. We followed Twelve Hours in Twelve Weeks: A Step-by-Step Plan for Baby Sleep Success by Suzy Giordano. We didn't start right away with a schedule. It wasn't really something I was interested in, having co-slept with my first and breastfed on demand. I wanted something that worked for all of us, but?was sensitive to?our children's needs. Our twins came home from the hospital on a schedule, eating every 3 hours, then every 4 hours. It worked for us. Around the time they were 10-weeks old, all hell broke loose. For 3 days, I slept on the nursery floor. They woke up at separate times at 45-minute intervals. Why? I don't know. I barely slept. I was stiff from sleeping on the floor in a comforter. I was tired from waking up so much. I didn't think they slept all day. I didn't play with them at night. I didn't feed them when they woke up "off-schedule."?I couldn't think of anything I was doing wrong. Thankfully, there was a twin group meeting that week. I dragged my disheveled self to the meeting and asked, "What should I do?!" A fellow twin mom recommended 12 Hours in 12 Weeks. I went out and bought it the next day, devouring the book in 45-minutes and writing our new schedule that very evening.

I immediately noticed improvement. We slowly moved in the right direction until our twins were right on schedule. They "slept through the night." We fed them at 10 pm and again at 7 am. During the day, they took a one-hour nap in the morning and a two-hour nap in the afternoon: three "baby free" hours. I even got my two-year old to take an afternoon nap during their naptime. It was glorious. We had to make sacrifices, such as scheduling appointments and playdates at times that "worked" for us.?I ran errands at times that "fit in our schedule." When family came to town, I made sure my husband supported my endeavors to keep our twins "on schedule." Sometimes that meant ending playtime with the grandparents early for nap or reminding my dad that no matter how warm the babies are, they may not nap on him. (My dad is a baby-nap magnet.) My husband and I preferred to feed the babies their bottles so they drank them "on schedule," no dilly-dallying. Our schedule was posted throughout the house. That first year, my husband could call from school and know exactly what we were doing at any given time. There were sacrifices, but there were huge rewards. I felt rested. I knew I had "me time" in the afternoons. I had time for laundry and cooking dinner. I showered. When we put the kids to bed, we had time to ourselves in the evening. The babies slept at night between feedings, no going in the nursery "one or two times." We did not go in the nursery at all between the 10 pm feeding and the 7 am feeding. Not on principle, but because the babies slept.

We got rid of the 10 pm feeding. The babies started sleeping from their last feeding at 7 pm to their first feeding at 7 am. Yes, the evenings were fussy. We pushed the 7 pm feeding up to about 6:30 pm to put an end to the fussiness. We loved the schedule. I loved the sleep. The first year, though, there are a lot of hiccups. The babies get angry because of developmental stages: they want to crawl, but can't yet. They want to hold the spoon. They don't want a sippy cup or whatever. And that terror called teething. Teething was a major problem at our house. Our 16-month olds have 14 teeth each. When their teeth started coming in, they came in pairs and groups! All of these things mess with the schedule. When teething was bad, the babies would wake up in the night. Ironically, they woke up every 6 hours, when the Ibuprofen would wear off. Or a cold would hit our house and they would be congested, bless their hearts. We followed the sleep methods in the book and would get them back to sleep. When they had colds, we would let them sleep more upright in bouncey sets or their swings (strapped in). It helped them breath better.

A funny thing happened in our adventures in scheduling: the babies preferred to fall asleep in their cribs. I remember my oldest wanting me to rock him to sleep. He wanted to drift off in my arms and then be laid down in his cribs. The twins want to fall asleep on their own, in their cribs. We use things to make a consistent sleep environment: the Sleep Sheep (familiar sounds)?and their blankets (has that "home" smell). They can fall asleep in Pack'N'Plays away from home or, of course, in their own cribs. It is very easy to put them to bed, much easier than putting our oldest to bed at the same age.

We've had varying nap schedules with them. The first year I stuck to the 12 Hours in 12 Weeks nap schedule. Around the time they turned a year old, we switched to one nap. It took place from 10 am to 2 pm. I loved that large block of time. I hated being strapped to the house during prime get-out-of-the-house hours. I fed them breakfast, let them play, then put them down to nap. When they woke up, they wanted to eat again, making it impossible to leave until 3 pm. I don't know if you've ever left the house with a toddler, but I can tell you that there aren't a lot of good places to go with two toddlers approaching 4 pm; that time starts getting close to the evening fussy hours. (Why do the evenings always mean fussy time?) Because I didn't like such a structured nap time, I started playing with the nap hours. Now we have a fluid nap schedule. If we are home all day, I may put them down around 10 am for a short morning nap. I may put them down around 11 am. I may put one down and let the other stay up. I shoot to give them each 2 hours of total naptime, all at once or 2 broken up naps. Usually, if they take a morning nap, they will still take almost a 2 hour afternoon nap, from about 3 to 5. I keep a Pack'N'Play up in our bedroom with a Sleep Sheep. That way I can lay them down at different times, if needed. Last weekend, they took opposite naps. One toddler went down at 10 am to 11:30 am. The other toddler went down to nap at 11:30 am to 2 pm. The first toddler went down from 2 pm to 4 pm. The second toddler went down from 4 pm to 6 pm. We had 2 hours with both toddlers, then they went to bed at 8 pm. When school starts, I plan on wearing them out in the morning and giving one long afternoon nap. Even with changing naptimes, they still sleep through the night. If they started having issues sleeping through the night, I wouldn't change their nap schedules so much. They also have personalities that support varying naptimes. It has worked well for us.

But, when I say they sleep through the night, they truly sleep through the night. We put them to bed at 8 pm. Sometimes they wake up at 9:30 am. Sometimes 10 am. Sometimes 7:30 am. One week, one of the twins woke up between 6:30 and 7:00 am consistently. I worried he was a morning person, but, thankfully, he fell back on schedule. Our summer plans have varied. Some mornings we are leaving early; others, late. Some days we are home all day and it doesn't matter what time we wake up. When school starts, I will set a wake up time again.

There are a few things that I wish I had done a little differently the first year. Putting them on a schedule is not one of them. There were hard times, but we stuck to it. And it has paid off. As Jane Roper says in Double Time: How I Survived--and Mostly Thrived-- Through the First Three Years of Mothering Twins:

I suspect that some of our friends and acquaintances thought we were uptight crazies for planning our lives around the girls' nap schedules and insisting on putting them down to bed every night, in their own cribs, at seven o'clock sharp. We knew plenty of singleton parents who toted their babies around at all hours... But when those rock and roll babies hit the one-year mark and still weren't sleeping through the night... several of our friends sheepishly asked us: um, how did you do it? ...When you've got twins, you don't mess around with sleep routines. You can't, or you'll never have a moment's rest yourself. Which isn't to say that it it's easy, but it can be done. Stick to your guns. You may even end up the envy of your singleton parent friends.
As for my oldest, while I was pregnant with the twins, we cracked down on the co-sleeping. By the time the babies were born, he was sleeping through the whole night in his own bed. When we potty-trained him at 3 years and 3 months, we taught him how to use the restroom, get some food, and entertain himself until Mommy wakes up (he has always been a morning person). Most mornings, by the time I wake up, he has eaten a banana and some cereal and is playing with his Star Wars toys or puzzles quietly at the table. I love waking up to, "Good morning, Momma! How did you sleep?" Such a sweet boy.
