NYC Mayor: 'Excitement' Over Tebow

(New York Post) - Newly acquired Jets quarterback Tim Tebow landed himself an important blocker Friday in New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

"Tebow is certainly going to make things interesting and breed new excitement," Bloomberg declared on his weekly WOR Radio show.

Some Jets fans have questioned whether the acquisition of Tebow as the team's backup quarterback will undercut current starter Mark Sanchez.

Bloomberg made it clear in the past that he was in Sanchez's corner.

When four-time MVP Peyton Manning was still a free agent a couple weeks ago, the mayor suggested the Jets not recruit him because that would mean bye-bye for Sanchez.

"Keep in mind the Jets have a young quarterback in Mark Sanchez and he nearly led his team to the Super Bowl twice," Bloomberg said at the time.

But the mayor did not get a chance to weigh in on a possible Sanchez-Tebow showdown because he spent so much time joking about his own football fantasy.

"I would have thought that if they wanted to have a backup for Mark Sanchez all they would have to do is call me," Bloomberg quipped. "You know it's only 13 Sundays. I can do it while I'm still mayor."
